Obama, eDemocracy and ABC radio
I listened to the new ABC Radio National program, Future Tense, about where Obama is heading with web 2.0 etc. It included an interview with Micah Sifry (runs the Personal Democracy Forum) who mentions the Obama memo (noted by Paul J )“Knowledge is widely dispersed in society and public officials benefit from having access to that dispersed knowledge”. That must have public servants shivering in their boots! There are some other interesting comments on the interview re Obama has created a different relationship dynamic with the public based on openness and participation - he has crossed a line and cant turn back. He also has 13 million email addresses of supporters for potential mobilisation!
This week's show (5 February) will continue the theme and look at Australian examples of eDemocracy including OpenAustralia (based on the UK's TheyWorkForYou site), the recent Future Melbourne Wiki and Australian Greens and their Democracy for Sale site. All available via podcast or transcript.
Enjoy!
