The Fourfold Uses of Social Media

Thanks to Norm, I came across an interesting US article on social media and national security - http://www.nextgov.com/nextgov/ng_20090415_8127.php What particularly caught my attention was the fourfold classification of the use of social media - 1) inward sharing (sharing information within an organisation) 2) outward sharing (sharing between organisations) 3) inbound sharing (obtaining information from outside the organisation) 4) outbound sharing (sharing information with those outside an organisation). There has been a lot of emphasis on 3) and 4) but for me 1) is probably the most important.
