I recently moved from the UK to Sydney to head up education for IBSG in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to that I was working in Coproate Affairs as Education Strategist for Cisco's social investments in education around the world.
I spent 14 years teaching mathematics and economics in secondary schools and also worked for nearly as long in teacher training and researcch into ICT in education
My husband and I are empty nesters who've taken an unspeificed number of gap years to live on the other side of the world (except mine is a working gap).

I have just been reading a very timely article by John Seely Brown and Richard P Adler about ‘social learning’. My reading coincided with a recent discussion I had with a colleague, Lee Simpson, about the use of VLEs in higher education. We both see VLEs being used primarily as repositories for lecture notes; for posting PowerPoint slides, or for turning acetates into electronic documents – all no more than putting books online.
